Check your charger before using it in Japan

Affiliate disclosure: This page contains one Rakuten affiliate link. We may receive a commission if you buy after following it.

Japan uses 100V electricity. The frequency is 50Hz in eastern Japan and 60Hz in western Japan (Japan National Tourism Organization). A plug adapter changes the plug shape, not the voltage (plug-adapter manufacturer FAQ). Check your actual charger and accommodation before connecting anything.

This page does not certify that your device is safe to use

The shopping example below is not a safety approval for your device. Stop and ask your device manufacturer and accommodation if the input label, grounding requirement, power rating, or outlet is unclear. Do not assume that a plug fitting into an adapter means the device can run on Japan’s electricity.

Before considering an adapter

Four things to check

  1. Read INPUT, not OUTPUT. For example, INPUT: 100–240V ~ 50/60Hz is a label format to look for, not a claim about your own charger. If your device is rated only for 220–240V, or you cannot read its label, do not use a shape-only adapter as the solution.
  2. Identify the actual plug. Check the pins on the charger you will bring; do not guess from your home country. A Japan-bound adapter must accept that plug and fit the accommodation’s outlet.
  3. Check grounding and ratings. If protective earth is required or uncertain, do not use a two-pin adapter without manufacturer and accommodation guidance. Confirm the device’s input current/power against the adapter’s rating and instructions.
  4. Confirm the place of use. Ask your accommodation about its actual outlet type, voltage, grounding facilities, and any restrictions.

This first version is limited to research on low-power chargers with verified 100–240V, 50/60Hz input, no required protective earth, and a two-pin Type C plug. Hair dryers, irons, shavers, motors, unknown-input devices, and voltage converters are outside this guide.

Optional delivery planning

Want an online order delivered to your hotel?

Ask the hotel before ordering. A hotel accepting luggage does not necessarily mean it accepts retailer-shipped parcels. Confirm whether it accepts a small prepaid order, the exact delivery name and address format, reservation details to include, arrival window, storage period, size restrictions, and what happens if delivery is early or late.

As examples of varying rules, a Toyoko Inn property asks for a reservation number and guest name on advance parcels, while Prince Smart Inn Miyazaki asks for guest name and check-in date. Neither policy guarantees that another hotel will accept your retailer order.

Message you can send yourself

Subject: Can you receive a prepaid online order before my stay? Hello, I have a reservation for [check-in date]. Before I order, could you confirm whether your hotel can receive a small, prepaid electrical adapter shipped directly by a Japanese online retailer for me? If yes, please tell me the exact delivery address and name format, required reservation details, acceptable arrival dates, storage deadline, and any item or size restrictions. What happens if it arrives early or late? Thank you.

Do not enter your name, booking number, or hotel address on this page. You would provide those details directly to the hotel and retailer after confirming their rules. Delivery dates, stock, payment methods, and hotel acceptance are not verified here.

A Japan-only adapter to check against your charger

Sanwa Supply TR-AD5WK accepts a two-pin Type C plug and has a two-pin Type A plug for Japan. The manufacturer's specifications say it does not convert voltage. We have checked the published specifications and the retailer link, but have not independently tested this adapter with your device.

Only consider this option after checking all four conditions above: your actual charger is marked for 100V and 50/60Hz input, it has the correct non-grounded Type C plug, its power is within the adapter's rating, and your accommodation confirms the outlet and any restrictions. If any condition is unclear, do not choose an adapter based on this page.

If ordering to a hotel, get its permission and exact delivery instructions first. The retailer, not this site, sets the current price, stock, payment options, shipping cost and delivery date.

The following affiliate link opens the Sanwa Direct product page on Rakuten Japan in a new tab:

Check the model and all order details on Rakuten before buying. A successful link test does not guarantee that an order, hotel delivery, or affiliate commission will succeed.

Current status

This page has one affiliate product link, but no price listing, checkout form, or booking-data collection. The link and product specifications were checked on 2 October 2026; the adapter has not been independently tested with your device. Clicking the link takes you to Rakuten, which handles its own referral measurement and purchase process. Confirm any delivery arrangement with your hotel and retailer.
